Transition to Kindergarten
Beginning Kindergarten
If your child turns 5 years old on or before September 1st, they will begin kindergarten in the fall.
2024-25 Kindergarten Registration is now open.
We are currently accepting online registration for all incoming kindergarteners. Our goal is to have all kindergarten students registered by the beginning of June. In addition to allowing your child time to become familiar with their school and teacher, enrolling early gives our staff time to prepare the classroom for your child and gives us the opportunity to invite your student(s) to various activities that happen throughout the summer, such as our Early Kindergarten Transition (EKT) program.
Early Kindergarten Transition Program (EKT) | Summer Program
Each summer David Douglas School District hosts a two week program designed to prepare students for starting kindergarten in the fall. The Early Kindergarten Transition Program (EKT), also known as ‘Jumpstart to Kindergarten’, is a safe and welcoming introduction to kindergarten for students and families. This program is specifically for students attending kindergarten in David Douglas School District.
REGISTRATION has now closed for Summer 2024.
Your student must be registered for Kindergarten BEFORE enrolling in our summer EKT program.

Identify Your Neighborhood School
If you are unsure which elementary school your home address is affiliated with, you can identify your neighborhood school here or call 503-256-6526.
Connect to Kindergarten Event
Every year in April, David Douglas hosts a Connect to Kindergarten event at all 9 elementary schools. This event gives families a chance to meet the school’s principal as well as the kindergarten teachers, tour the school, visit Kindergarten classrooms, and learn about the Transition to Early Kindergarten program held in the summer. A great chance to see what opportunities our schools have for your students entering Kindergarten!
This event has already occurred for the 2024 school year. Check back here in the winter for information on this event for the 2025 school year.
